How to draw an eye – Part 1

Posted by How-To | Posted in Face Parts | Posted on 24-04-2010

The eyes are considered to be one of the most difficult to draw body part. One reason for that is that the eyes usally come in pares, so once you finaly manage to draw one single good looking eye, you know you’ll have to draw a second one just right beside it, and it will have to be not just a good drawing – but also similar to the first one. Yep, it’s not easy.

In the following few posts I’ll try to give some eye-drawing tips, which I hope will help you improve your eye drawing skills.

Drawing a simple cartoon eye

1. Start with a simple round circle. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect, but the rounder – the better.

2. Eyelids – draw the upper and lower eyelids as  simple curves on the top and the bottom of the first circle. Notice that in the below example I don’t draw them on the exact outline of the circle – their middle part is inside the circle, but close to the outline.

I’m Back Drawing + New Design!!

So.. it has been a while since I last added any post… 4 months to be exact. The thing is, when I just started, the blog gave me a good reason do draw, to be creative. Since then time have passed – got a new position at work, which demands more creativity, so this part in my life got covered, and I found ways not to attend my classes, so I have a lot of spare time now, that I fill with fun activities (which doesn’t usually include my home assignments).

So slowly but surely, the need to draw was pushed asside, returning only in long meetings and phone-doodling (you know, doodling circles and funny faces when you’re on looong phone conversations).

Then today an unexpected complement from an illustrator which I really appreciate – Elite Avni, gave me a boost of motivation… Why did I even stop drawing?? So – I’m back :)

Spot The Differences

Ok, so I prommised a new design. If you didn’t already notice – the new design is already live! It’s very similar to the previous one, but hey – it’s really better. can’t you see it?

Well, if you’re like my lovely boyfriend (who said “Yeah, the old one was great. Where’s the new one??” – when looking at the new design…), then let me help you with the ‘before’ and ‘after’ images.

Can you spot the differences? (Hint – there are 7 visible differences!)
