My friend Frishman has a mind of a hacker, but of soul of an artist. Having both qualities, Frishman was able to spot a real ‘how-to-draw’ jewel - All you need to know about drawing an owl, in a very simple 2 steps tutorial. Enjoy!

Well, I know, it’s not the best ‘how to draw’… You can’t really understand the shading and stuff, right? Well, to compensate on that, I promise to upload an owl tutorial soon, with some more steps.

P.S.

This reminded me of the Transformer Owl: (be patient, it stats to be interesting after 36 seconds)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCgbYnNAbSM

Another P.S.

P.S.

I tried to find the origin of this wonderful owl, and failed*. However, what I did find was another amazing tutorial, possibly created by the same artist:

* 29.12.10 – Update – the artist found me!! Hooray! His name is Steven Hill, and he is the talented creator of the ‘How to draw an owl’ meme. lovely!

You can find his work here: http://stevenhillgraphicdesign.tumblr.com/,

and also here – I especially loved the posters: http://cargocollective.com/stevenhill/#555350/Merchandise-Designs

Thanks for the owl Steven! :)

Yes, I know. I’ve already posted a ‘how to draw a pig‘ post. I didn’t mean to do this again. I was actually intending to draw a cow. seriously. But the cow’s ears turned out to be so small, that it felt better to make it a piggy.

Notice that in this quick speed doodling tutorial I show the ‘circles’ method of doodling – drawing a base for the pig shapes, and than it’s easier for me to go over the lines and create the final piggy.

Enjoy:

A cartoon sheep is the easiest thing to draw – a sheep is basically a circle for the head, 2 ears, and one cloud for a body. Oh yes, and legs, and maybe a tail. That’s it.

I’ll show you now 2 kinds of sheep which are extremely easy to draw, and are actually a very good thing to start with when learning how to draw.

Final images:

Sheep No. I – The fluffy cloud sheep

This is an innocent sheep, cotton – fluffy. My sheep has a gazing sad look in her eyes, but you can replace that easily with a happy look just by creating bigger eyes with white area in them.

Sheep No. II – The ‘Chagall wannabe’ cartoon sheep

This sheep reminds me something of Chagall’s sheep, but they’re still cartoon.

Here's a quick 'how to' for drawing a cute farm pig, using the 'step by step' method with free doodling. It might take a few tries to create each line just right, but remember that it's still doodling - incomplete lines and shapes are really ok, and actually makes the cartoon look great.

Cartoon tends to make the weirdest, hairiest snorting animals look really cute. This doesn’t apply to cats, which are cute anyway, of course.

So this time we’re gonna draw a really cute pink piggy! the method will be free doodling, so it might take a few tries to create each line just right, but remember that it’s still doodling > incomplete lines and shapes are really ok, and actually makes the cartoon look great.

This will be the final image:

I always start with the head: create 2 circles, one inside the other. The inside circle will be the nose. Then, draw the ears just above the nose, and the eyes in both sides of it. Add 2 nostrils and a mouth – in any expression you like.

Now – the body:

Don’t forget – there’s another leg behind… (the ‘behind leg’ is always partially drawn, you don’t see it all). Also add the curly tail, and remove unneeded lines (in my case i had to delete a line inside the right ear).

That’s it – we’ve got a piggy!

My sister has a thing with cats. Well, I do to – 2 of this kind are running around my house as we speak. But she’s got something with a specific kind of smiling cats, which I’ll show you at the end of this post…

Out final image will be:

To draw the cat we’ll use a very common method of drawing – creating circles and shapes as a base for the final drawing, and then removing unneeded lines and adjusting others, to get the final drawing.

Since we’ll be drawing and than deleting lines, I recommend using a pencil :)

Creating the base – Body Building

Draw a circle for the head, and a rounded shape for the body. Notice that the bigger body shape gets smaller as it gets closer to the head shape.

Now, add 2 triangles for the ears and 2 sets small circles for the feet: make sure that the ‘farther’ ear is just a bit smaller than the closer one (For the right perspective).

Than, connect the feet with the body with round shapes, and add a nice tail.

Removing unneeded line

Now we have lots of circles and shapes. With a few adjustments, we’ll find a cat hiding inside:

Delete all unneeded lines – These are the red lines in the following image (hope you used a pencil!). When done, you’ll probably get something like the cat on the right:

Face

It’s easy – find the center of the face, and just a bit left to it draw a triangle: that’s the nose. Now 2 circles for the eyes and add the mouth, and that’s it.

In my drawing the left eye is coming out of the face. It’s a cartoon, so it’s allowed :) If you’re doing the same, just don’t forget to remove the face line which hide behind the eye, like the red line in the right cat image:

Colors!!

That’s it, you’ve got a cat! Give it nice colors, and it will be a happy one too!

A funnier cat…

The thing with my sister is that she likes a very specific kind of a caricatured cat. this one:

you’ve got to admit it’s a funny one :)
